The 2016 Asia Cup will be creating history as it will be first occasion when Asia Cup will be played under T20 cricket format. Last 12 editions of Asia Cup cricket were played by following One Day International rules and format. In April 2015, Asian Cricket Council announced that future Asia cups will be played on rotation basis of ODI and Twenty20 formats.

Shere-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh will host the 2016 Asia Cup.
