NZ bowled out on 221 runs, SL 78/5 on Day 1 of Wellington test

In the second test match of 2014-15 NZ vs SL series, New Zealand batting struggled against Sri Lankan pace bowling and whole team got out on just 221 runs in the first innings. Sri Lanka bowler Nuwan Pradeep took 4 wickets in Kiwi inning whereas Suranga Lakmal also took 3 wickets. Only one batsman Kane Williamson scored fifty for New Zealand. Williamson made 69 runs in 115 balls.

Sri Lanka won toss and asked New Zealand to bat. Kiwi team got good start of 31 runs but unfortunately opener Latham couldn’t contribute more and got out to Lakmal’s bowl. Williamson joined Rutherford on the pitch and started to build partnership. But again after 31 runs in the partnership Rutherford departed. Now its turn for Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson to take NZ at the big total. Both batsmen played sensibly and scored the runs. At lunch New Zealand were 93/2 in 25 overs.

After coming from lunch, Williamson completed his 50 in 75 balls. Taylor couldn’t stay more on crease and Nuwan Pradeep bowled him on the individual score of 35 runs. After this third wicket captain Brendon McCullum arrived on the ground but he failed to contribute single run the team’s total. Lakmal bowled McCullum on duck. Now Kiwi team is in trouble as they had lost 4 wickets on the score of 142. Neesham joined Williamson but he also couldn’t contribute big or the side.

Jimmy Neesham was looking in hurry and he made 15 runs in 18 balls. Pradeep showed Neesham the return way to pavilion when Blackcaps were on 162. After this Watling came to the crease. He also failed to go long for New Zealand and captain Angelo Mathews took Watling’s wicket. NZ lost 6th wicket on 181 runs. Just after Watling dismissal, Sri Lanka got big wicket of Kane Williamson. Dhammika Prasad bowled Williamson on 69 runs individual score. This was seventh wicket in NZ first inning.

Blackcaps lower order couldn’t contribute more and whole team got all out on 221 runs. For Sri Lanka Nuwan Pradeep and Suranga Lakmal were the stars.

Sri Lanka didn’t get good start too in the match. Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets on the score of 29 runs in first inning. Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne were the falling wickets as per the latest update of New Zealand vs Sri lanka 2nd test match Day-1. Kiwi fast bowler Doug Bracewell took three wickets. Sangakkara was on crease at the stumps of day-1. At the end of day Sri Lanka lost two more wickets on the score of 78. Mathews and Prasana Jayawardene the other dismissals in Lankan innings.

Kumar Sangakkara becomes fifth batsman in test cricket history to score 12000 runs when he made first two runs of his inning.
