The Bangladesh team has been at their best since their display in the World Cup. They knocked the England team out of the cup and followed it with a great outing against Pakistan. They won the One day series 3-0 and also beat Pakistan in the only T20 game.
This will give them great confidence as they are ready to take on India in the ODI series after a disappointing end to the one off Test match in Fatullah. Rain played spoil sport as the test match ended in a draw and now, Bangladesh would want to prove their metal in the ODI series.
The first match of the 3 ODI series between the teams will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday the 18th of June. It will be a day night game which may assist the fast bowlers under light. However, it is expected to spin all throughout the game.
The weather on Thursday at Mirpur is not great for cricket as it has been throughout the tour. Thunder showers and huge rains are expected on the day if the game.
India had a good World Cup in Australia where they were knocked out by the hosts and the champions. This was the only game they lost in the tournament. The players in the team have a settled ring to them as most of them have been consistent for the team from a long time.
The Test series dint go on well as both teams got only one chance to bat due to the rain. But India showed great batting prowess in the only test and they can take lots of positives from the game.
With Dhoni set to return as the captain, the Indian team looks even more balanced and the experience that the squad has collected with the test series will also come in handy.
Bangladesh also are in great limited over form as they whitewashed Pakistan in their last home series. They will be confident of putting on a good show and any lapse by the Indians will be taken advantage of by the hosts.
The Bangladesh team has an added prize at the end of the series. If they are able to whitewash the Indians, or even lose by 2-1, they will leapfrog the West Indies in the ODI rankings. This will help them seal a spot in the Champions trophy.
Mashrafe Mortaza (Captain), Tamim Iqbal, Taskin Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar, Rubel Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Sakib al Hasan, Sabbir Rehman, Nasir Hossain, Arafat Sunny.
MS Dhoni (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Mohit Sahrma, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Axar Patel.
Though the Bangladesh team will be high on confidence, Dhoni’s men will make sure that they will have a hard time at home. The ease at which the Indian batsmen played in the Test Match shows that Bangladesh will have to play out of their skins to get a result in the series.
Unless the hosts produce some extraordinary cricket, the Indian team is more than likely to run away with the series.
The Indian team cannot cut the gap at the top of the ODI rankings between them and the Australian’s to just 10 points if they can win the series 3-0. If Bangladesh produces a similar result, they will go ahead of the West Indies and will secure themselves a spot in the Champions trophy.
With more than just a bi lateral series to play for, this game has all the makings of a typical sub continental nail biter. Do join in and cheer for your team.
Though Bangladesh are playing at their home Indian team will be favorites to win. India has 70 percent winning chances over Bangladesh.
