Tamil Nadu Premier League, one of the most popular national level cricket leagues in India, has been under the scanner of authorities and BCCI for a while due to alleged contact of players and support staff with bookies.
The media reports claim that at least one of the teams in TNPL was virtually under control of the bookies after they got hold of the team owner and made an illegal deal. The details of that deal are not out in the open, however, it could possibly impact the results of entire tournament.
The team in question reportedly features an Indian player, a regular in IPL along with a coach of a Ranji team.
BCCI’s anti corruption unit has been overlooking the matter ever since it was speculated that the bookies had access to more than one team management and possibly influenced many matches in the last season. BCCI ACU chief Ajit Singh has confirmed to media that there were a number of instances where the players were approached by the bookies.

players have informed us and we are checking who have approached them. We are
taking statements asking when they were approached, under what circumstances.
Usually, the messages come on WhatsApp, so we are trying to establish IDs.
