Delhi Capitals beat RCB to reach IPL playoffs after 7 years

Delhi Capitals have defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 16 runs in the match 46 of Vivo IPL 2019 to make sure they’ll play playoffs for the first time since 2012. This was Delhi’s 12th match in the season and it was their 8th victory to get 16 points and make sure they’ll play knockout matches of 12th Indian Premier League edition.

From the start of the match, Delhi Capitals looked positive against RCB team which is knocked out from this season of IPLT20. Winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first in Feroz Shah Kotla and batsmen looked good from the start of the match as Dhawan and Shaw provided a firing start to the team though Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 18 runs in the fourth over of innings.

After that, Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Shreyas Iyer batted really well for Capitals and both players smashed brilliant fifties to take team a good position where middle order can consolidate. Rutherford and Akshar Patel scored some handy runs at the end of innings to guide team’s total 187 for the lose of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

But he Kagiso Rabada took his important wicket just before the end of powerplay and Kohli was on the crease with AB De Villiers. Both these two failed to score runs and couldn’t give RCB a platform where the team could chase the target.

At the end, Royal Challengers lost the match by 16 runs which meant they’ll no longer can qualify for playoffs as they have only 8 points with 4 wins in played 12 matches. Bangalore have only two matches remaining in the season. With this victory, Delhi Capitals are on the top of points table with their better run rate than Chennai Super Kings who have also 16 points.
