FIFA releases official mascot for ever world cup tournament since 1966. We are heading towards 21st edition of football world cup which will be played in Russia in 2018. Hence FIFA declared official mascot for 2018 world cup on 22 October 2016 during a TV program “Evening Urgant” on Russia’s first channel.
As per Federation International De Football Association more than 100 submissions were there for mascot but at the end LOC finalized three characters a cat, wolf and tiger for voting round. Local Russian fans voted on FIFA.com to select official mascot and with 5,37,522 votes, wolf mascot “Zabivaka” was named the official mascot of 2018 FIFA World Cup.
These three mascot candidates were designed by different student designers. Cat mascot was designed by Sofia Podlesnykh meanwhile tiger was designed by Valeria Taburenko. And wolf mascot candidate was designed by Ekaterina Bocharova.
The voting results were declared on 22nd October 2016 with Zabivaka scored 53% votes out of more than 1 million votes. Tiger received 27% votes while people 20% people voted for cat.
Selected wolf mascot is designed with the flavors of Russian national football team kit. Zabivaka is wearing blue and white wool T-shirt and red shorts.

It also wears an orange color sports glasses. The mean of Zabivaka is “the one who scores”.
Russia to host 2018 football world cup from 14 June to 15 July at 12 venues. 32 teams to compete in the 21st edition of FIFA world cup just like previous edition.
