International Cricket Council CEO Dave Richardson has confirmed that India-Pakistan 2019 world cup match will be played as per schedule and India can not deny to play Pakistan in a global event like world cup. ICC chief said that both teams are bound by an agreement that states that no country can refuse to play any participating nation in an ICC tournament.
“For ICC events, all teams have signed a members participation agreement, which requires them to participate in all the matches of the tournament and (in case of) any unjustified non-compliance with that provision, the playing conditions will kick in and the points will be awarded accordingly (to the other team),” Richardson said.
Indian cricket board BCCI urged ICC to ban countries which spread terrorism from participating in global cricket events. International Cricket Council have made sure that politics will not be mixed with sports and cricket’s governing council is abide by that.
“The ICC’s motto is clear. We don’t want to mix politics with sports,” ICC boss said.
Team India wore camouflage caps during an ODI match at Ranchi against Australia to show respect to the families of martyrs of Pulwama Attack in February. ICC granted permission to wear and shut down PCB’s case against BCCI as cricket’s biggest governing council don’t think it was a political act.
“In this case, it was a one-off consent. It was granted subject to the message around the wearing of the caps simply being in sympathy with the people who had lost their lives in the (Pulwama) attack and in particular to help them raise funds for the families of the people who had lost their lives,” he said.
India and Pakistan are due to face each other on 16 June in ICC World Cup 2019 match. Indian team has never lost a single match against Pakistan in cricket world cup championship.
