Indian football team will be playing their opening game of 2018 Russia world cup qualifier second round on 11 June, 2015 against Oman. The match has been scheduled to play at Sree Kanteerava Stadium and it will start at 19:00 as per Indian Standard Timings (IST).
Blue Tigers showed great performance against Nepal in the initial stage of qualification for 2018 world cup, especially on the home soil. Tonight’s game will also be played in India and we can hope that young and confident tigers can show a great match against Oman.
Visitors Oman who are currently ranked 101 in FIFA rankings are definitely great side and it will not be easy for Stephen Constantine boys to beat them. Indian soccer team is much relying on their star forward Sunil Chhetri who scored 2 brilliant goals in the first leg qualification match against Nepal. He is ready for Oman challenge and said in the early match interview that Oman is a good side but we can beat them.
Chhetri also mentioned that Indian team should go with a bunch of same players for over the next 4-5 years to get some good results on international level.
He said, “What I would like, is a team that stays together for a longer time. In my career for the national team, whenever I can look back, whenever we got the result and have done better is when we had the proper 11-to-14 players. Of course, you need to the 18-to-23, but if a gaffer can’t find the 11-to-14 players that he needs. This is just the start.”
“I hope that the players who are there in the camp makes the gaffer’s job more difficult to bring more players to stay here. Then we can build up a team where we can see the same players for the next five years. Then we can get results.”
