India will now play their first test against Sri Lanka in Galle from August 12 as opposed to the earlier date of August 18. The change was made in the playing dates owing to general elections which are slated to be held on August 17. The change was reported by a media release issued by host broadcaster Sony Six.

The itinerary is now confirmed by both BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after talks between the boards on the rescheduling began earlier on Tuesday. In other obvious changes the second test will now be played from August 20-24 at P Sara Oval in Colombo and the final test in Pallekele from August 28-Sep 1.
The second test will be a historic one as it is now confirmed as Kumar Sangakkara’s final outing for his country in international cricket; Sri Lanka will try and help the legend to sign off on a winning note. In other developments SLC awarded broadcasting rights to Multi Screen Media’s venture Sony after it outbid previous broadcaster Ten Sports for a reported bid of $3.25 million.
The test series was initially not on the Future Tours Program (FTP) but was scheduled after Sri Lanka agreed to play a 5-match ODI series in India last year after West Indies returned home halfway through the series owing to contractual dispute with the board.
