Jaypee Punjab Warriors to take on Delhi Waveriders in the 2nd semi-final match of 2015 Hockey India League at Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM today just after the completion of first semifinal between Ranchi Rays and Uttar Pradesh Wizards.
JPW secured the top position in Hero HIL-3 points table whereas DWR was at 4th position. The good thing about Punjab Warriors is that they won six games in the first stage of tournament whereas Selhi Waveriders won only three matches. So JPW has got winning habit and they are winning game pretty comprehensively.
Delhi Waveriders will be highly depending on Jason Wilson, Akashdeep Singh, Lloyd Norris-Jones, Simon Child and Sardar Singh. Captain Sardar Singh hasn’t given his best in the tournament and will be desperate to perform well tonight. Sandeep Singh, Jamie Dwyer, Christopher Ciriello, SV Sunil and Lucas Rey will be vital players for JPW in the second semi-final match.
Jaypee Punjab Warriors star Jamie Dwyer believes that knockout game against defending champions is not going to be easy but if we (Punjab Warriors) play as per our strengths we can beat DWR. In the first stage of Hockey India League, JPW defeated DWR twice and in the previous game they won by 7-0 score.
Jamie Dwyer said, “Although we have won all the matches played against Delhi till now, but the challenge is going to be really tough. Our strategy would be to work on our strengths and improve upon the problem areas so as to convert maximum scoring opportunities into goals.”
Delhi Waveriders coach Cedric D’Souza said that both Punjab and Delhi are strong sides. He mentioned that we (DWR) have prepared enough for the big semi-final match and hope to perform best.
He said, “It will be a tough clash tomorrow as both teams have a lot of strengths. Past performances don’t mean anything at this point and it is all about performance on the given day. We have done our homework and will do our utmost to follow the plan and win. But it will all boil down to which team can control play and capitalise on the opportunities created.”
