Three-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians have defeated title defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier of 12th edition to reach twenty20 final for the fifth time in the history of championship. Mumbai Indians beat CSK by 6 wickets with 9 balls remaining in the match to enter finale on May 12 in Hyderabad.
Chepauk stadium’s pitch wasn’t favoring batsmen and bowlers were enjoying the time in middle. CSK players tried hard to score but couldn’t hit ball as per the format’s requirement. However Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni played some good shots to take Chennai’s total 131 which was challenging on this M.A. Chidambaram’s wicket.
Mumbai Indians also didn’t get good start as they lost two quick wickets in three first four overs of the innings while team’s total was just 21. Captain Rohit Sharma and inform wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock returned to pavilion early. Two young players Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan took responsibility and built match winning partnership for blue brigade.
Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 26 when MI reached to 101 score. It was too late for home team and Mumbai Indians were on the mark to seal their spot for the Indian Premier League final for the 5th time. Suryakumar remained unbeaten and made 71 to confirm victory. Mumbai played 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2017 finals in which only one time in 2010 when team didn’t win trophy.
