New Zealand beat Sri Lanka in 2015 world cup opener

Blackcaps have defeated Sri Lanka in the opening match of 2015 cricket world cup. Home side starts world cup with a big win and proves that why they are favorites this year. New Zealand won the match by 98 runs. Corey Anderson was declared Man of The Match for his all-rounding performance of scoring 75 runs in 46 balls and took 2 wickets.

After losing toss Kiwi openers came to open and both openers Guptil and McCullum gave brilliant start. Both batsmen built partnership of 111 runs for first wicket. Brendon McCullum made 65 runs in 49 balls before getting out. Guptil missed half century and out on 49. New Zealand’s key player Kane Williamson played good inning and made 57. It seemed that NZ couldn’t score 300 plus runs but Corey Anderson smashed ball all over the park.

Anderson made 75 quick runs in 46 balls. He hit two big sixes and 8 fours. Blackcaps set 332 runs target for Sri lanka in this opening math of 2015 ICC world cup. Sri Lankan team got good opening stand in this big chase. Dilshan and Thirimanne added 67 runs in 13 overs. Dilshan played slow inning and made 24 in 41 balls. Kumar Sangakkara and Thirimanne built partnership and took SL past 100. Trent Boult bowled Thirimanne on 65 and SL was 124/2.

After Thirimanne’s dismissal Sri Lanka batting collapsed like house of cards and whole team all out in 46.2 overs after scoring 233 runs. Southee, Boult, Anderson, Milne and Vettori took 2-2 wickets each. Hence New Zealand registered 98 runs win against Sri Lanka in the inaugural game of 2015 world cup.
