Novak Djokovic wins career’s 14th Grand Slam at 2018 US Open

Serbian professional tennis star Novak Djokovic has won career’s 14th grand slam singles title at US Open as he beats Juan Del Potro in the final of men’s singles event at 2018 championship. 31-year old Djokovic claimed his third US Open trophy by defeating Potro by 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 in the final match.

Novak Djokovic won US Open title after three years long run as previously he won championship in 2015 while his first ever US Open triumph was in 2011. With this victory, Serbian star matches tally of 14 Grand Slam titles won by Pete Sampras.

“He was someone I was looking up to. The first actual thing I saw related to tennis on the TV was his first or second Wimbledon championship. That inspired me to start playing tennis. There is a lot of significance of me being now shoulder to shoulder in terms of Grand Slam wins with him,” Djokovic said about idol Sampras.

Djokovic suffered a lot from injuries and fitness issues over the time. Hence he thanked his team for believing, motivating and encouraging him to achieve such milestones. Third US Open title holder also said that it would hard for him to say in February that he would win Wimbledon and US Open as he had been going through injury concerns.
