World number two women’s tennis player Simona Halep picks her career’s best match as she chooses 2019 Wimbledon Final during Tennis Legends vodcast show amid coronavirus lockdown. Romanian star was up-against seven-time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams and she defeated her in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to win maiden championships crown.
“Well, definitely it was the best match of my career, and there’s no doubt. Before the match, I was just concentrating on my memories from Singapore, when I faced her in the groups and then in the finals, and I don’t want to talk about it,” Simona said.
How did you beat Serena??
Serena Williams is the queen of court winning so many titles. So when asked how she defeated the start, she explained that she didn’t treat the game as she was playing against Serena. Halep took the final as an opportunity to win it as she was appearing in the Wimbledon finals for the first time meanwhile Williams appeared lot of time there.
“I was very focused on making her move and being aggressive. Because, I knew if I do some steps backward, I cannot handle her power. So, I said, on the grass, she’s the favorite, because she has experience.”
Being aggressive is the key!
Simona Halep also narrates that she was mentally too strong and didn’t allow Serena to play the game she used to play. Romanian kept focusing with lot of aggression.
“She has faced those moments many more times than me. Actually, I was there for the first time. And mentally I was strong I said, I have my chance and I have to go there.”
The 2020 Wimbledon Championships has been cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak.
