World Number one women’s tennis player Serena Williams is favorite to win BNP Paribas Open tournament at Indian Wells. Competition director Steve Simon has mentioned that it is difficult to beat American Serena when she gets going on. Williams got wildcard entry in the tournament.
Steve Simon said, “Serena has to be the favorite. When she’s playing well, she’s difficult to beat. She can go down as one of the best ever to play the game, and rightfully so.”
Serena Williams became Indian Wells Masters champion two times in 1999 and 2001 whereas world no. 1 Maria Sharapova also won 2 times in 2006 and 2013.
Simon also praised Russian beauty Maria Sharapova. He said, “Maria is a great champion. She’s the most professional and one of the most competitive players who brings it every day. I saw she has Azarenka in the third round, so she has to be ready to go from the get go.”
Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams are expected to meet in BNP Paribas Open final as the draw announced. In recent time both players met at Australia Open final where Serena beat Maria to claim her 19th grand slam.
Daniela Hantuchova has also won Indian Wells Masters two times. Steve Simon also likes Daniela in the tournament and said that conditions will help here and suit too.
He said, “She’s comfortable here and she likes it. I think the conditions suit her. When players are in environments they’re comfortable in, they play well. It would be fun to see if she can win it three times because she’s become a favorite here.”
