Maria Sharapova vs Ekaterina Makarova 2015 Australian Open Semifinal preview.

Preview

Maria Sharapova beat Eugenie Bouchard in the quarterfinal game to qualify for semis whereas Ekaterina Makarova won against Simona Halep to get into semifinal. This is going to be sixth occasion when Maria and Ekaterina will be facing each other on tennis court. In previous 5 meets Sharapova dominated and won all the games against Makarova.

Head to head:

Maria Sharapova 5:0 Ekaterina Makarova

This is the third meet between these two Russian players in Australian Open as Sharapova and Makarova met in the quarterfinals of 2012 and 2013 Australian open tournaments where Maria Sharapova knocked out her.

Both Maria and Ekaterina faced each other before two years ago in the Australian Open quarterfinal on 22 January 2013 in which Sharapova defeated no 10 seed Makarova by 6-2, 6-2.

So we can expect that Maria Sharapova will dominate again and will qualify for the Australian Open final. Ekaterina Makarova needs to work really hard to get it over no. 2 seed Maria. This is an opportunity for Makarova to take revenge of two Australian open quarterfinal defeats from Sharapova by knocking her out from the 2015 competition.

Whoever wins on 29 Jan, the fact is a Russian player will play final of the Australian Open 2015. Maria is happy to know and even she quoted, “It’s nice to know a Russian will be in the final representing the country.”
