Smith to be 22nd ODI captain for Australia in Hobart One-Day

Steven Smith to be 22nd ODI captain for Australia in Hobart against England.

Steven Smith had captained Australian side in the test series against India in the absence of regular captain Michael Clarke. He led team very well and impressed national selectors to appoint him One-Day team captain as well if they require any point of time.

National selector Rodney Marsh said, “Steven´s appointment was a straightforward decision given the excellent impression he made in charge of the side during the Commonwealth Bank Test series when he stepped in for the injured Michael Clarke.”

Rodney also said that it is quite difficult to replace player like Bailey but we can’t do anything as per laws. He said, “It is unfortunate for George Bailey that he will miss the match in his home state but in Steven we have a dynamic player who leads from the front, by example, and we look forward to him doing so again on Friday.

George Bailey is facing one match ban due to the slow over-rate. Johnson and Hazlewood are also kept out from the final 12-man squad for the Hobart ODI against England on Friday. Cameron White and Shaun Marsh are included in the side.
