West Indies beat Indian team by 7 wickets to play England cricket team in the ICC World T20 final on 3rd April at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This is the 2nd occasion when the Caribbean team has qualified for the final as previously they played 2012 final and won the championship.

Indian team was favorite to win the event as they were playing in the home conditions and had great team. But it was not their day on Thursday and West Indies registered a thrilling win to knockout Men in Blue. Winning the toss West Indies’ skipper Darren Sammy chose to bowl first on this typical Wankhede’s pitch which supports batsman.

Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane provided good start and added 50 odd runs in first six overs. Rohit made 43 runs before getting dismissed in the 8th overs. After that, run machine Virat Kohli joined Rahane on the crease. Virat was scoring runs at very good pace whereas Rahane couldn’t hit the ball. Rahane made 40 runs in 35 balls which made India shortened 20-30 runs at the end.

Virat Kohli scored 16th fifty of his international T20 career to guide India towards a big total of 192 runs in 20 overs. It was a big total in prospects of match situation but West Indies had deep batting line up and team was relying a lot on top order destructive batsman Chris Gayle. But Gayle didn’t play well in the match and returned to pavilion in the second over of innings. India had great hopes after receiving Gayle’s wicket too early.

But India couldn’t make most out of it as opener Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons started to exploit Indian bowling especially spinners. They were scoring runs at the pace which was required to keep them in the run chase. Charles scored brilliant 50 to build the base for upcoming batsmen to score runs. Lendl Simmons was the man of the moment for Windies as he was playing first game of tournament and made unbeaten 82 runs that lead West Indies to enter in the finals. He was awarded player of the match for match winning knock.

West Indies will now play England in the final on Sunday at Eden Gardens.
