Williamson hundred lead New Zealand to beat SL in Nelson ODI

New Zealand cricket team has beaten Sri Lanka in the fourth One-Day match of 2014-15 series at Nelson. NZ won by 4 wickets with 11 balls remaining. Kiwi batsman Kane Williamson made century to guide New Zealand to take 2-1 lead in the series. Williamson scored 103 runs in 107 balls in which he hit 6 boundaries and one six.

Having won the toss Sri Lanka didn’t get good start and lost first wicket on 11 runs in the 5th over. Karunaratne scored 5 runs only. After this Sri Lankan batsmen Dilshan and Sangakkara built 100 runs plus partnership. Dilshan made 44 runs before getting out. Williamson dismissed Dilshan on SL’s 113 score.

Jayawardene and Sangakkara played sensibly and brought solidity in Sri Lankan inning. Kumar Sangakkara contributed 76 runs before dismissed by Milne. Captain Angelo Mathews couldn’t open his account and gone for duck.

Mahela Jayawardene played good inning and made 94 runs in 82 balls. Rest batsmen couldn’t do more in Sri lanka inning and team managed to score fighting total of 276 in 49.3 overs.

Tim Southee took 3 wickets for New Zealand whereas Milne and McClenaghan shared two-two wickets each in Sri Lanka inning here at Nelson.

In the chase of 277 target New Zealand also lost first wicket in the fifth over of inning as Brendon McCullum got dismissed by Kulasekara on 11 runs individual score. Martin Guptil couldn’t make big runs in this innings and dismissed on 20 runs individual score. After this Williamson and Taylor tried to re-build the innings but Ross was dismissed by Herath.

Kane Williamson and Grant Elliott took responsibility and built partnership. Both batsmen played sensibly and took team’s total past 150. Mendis dismissed Elliott when he was batting on 44.
