BCCI planning to host IPL 2020 in July due to Coronavirus pandemic

Board of Cricket Control in India is planning to organize cash rich tournament Indian Premier League’s 13th edition in the month of July. “The board is looking at an alternate window to host matches, possibly in July, or latest during winter,” BCCI official told CNBC.

Indian Premier League was originally scheduled to play from 29th March but due to coronavirus’ out burst in the country, forced India cricket board to postpone the league. There were several reports published when it is claimed that tournament could be cancelled but BCCI is trying best to organize the season.

The fact is if IPL doesn’t take place, BCCI and it’s stakeholders would face huge loss. The broadcaster Star Sports who bought rights for 16,347 crore INR, may face a loss of about 3.5K crores if IPL-13 cancels.

“The financial impact will be very heavy if the IPL is not played this year, but we don’t yet know how much would that be,” one of the CSK officials said.

Also there are rumors that Indian Premier League governing council could take decision of organizing 13th edition later to the year in September-October if t20 world cup in Australia is cancelled. So it will be difficult to predict at this moment when IPL 2020 be played. Only time can answer.
