Hard Rock Stadium in Miami set to be 2026 world cup venue

Good news for soccer fans in Miami as the Hard Rock Stadium in the city has been selected as the potential venue for FIFA World Cup 2026 that is set to be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico. FIFA representatives met Miami bid officials virtually on Monday 15 March 2021 and had fruitful discussion on Miami being host city for 23rd edition of football’s gala event.

As per sources, Miami is shortlisted among 17 cities trying to be selected as the venue for soccer world cup. There are die hard fans and lovers of football sport in the city as during 2018 world cup, Miami captured highest viewership across the country. Hard Rock Stadium hosted 2017 El Clasico Miami and generated 15$ million through tickets sale to become highest grossing soccer match in the history of United States.

“Miami is uniquely positioned to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. I am thrilled we are moving forward in the selection process. As a top soccer destination, a world leader in hosting major events, and home to a diverse, international community, Miami is the perfect place to host FIFA’s first World Cup in North America in over 32 years,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

2026 World Cup will be first edition of FIFA when 48 teams will be competing in the tournament and 16 venues are set to host the chmpionship.

“With five major convention centers, nine sporting/event venues and an endless amount of warm weather, Greater Miami offers everything fans can ask for. We are thrilled to be a top finalist in the 2026 World Cup selection process. In addition, we look forward to working closely with our partners at U.S. Soccer and FIFA,” William D. Talbert III, CDME, President & CEO of the GMCVB said.

Hard Rock Stadium has capacity of 65,320 spectators and it is one of the most beautiful sporting grounds in U.S. to host the matches. FIFA is projected to take final decision on 2026 world cup venues by the end of 2021.
