ICC World Cup 2019: Pakistan all-out for 105 runs, West Indies won

1992 cricket world cup champion Pakistan were blown away in their opening match of 2019 ICC world cup as West Indies bowlers bowled out Men In Green for just 105 runs. Pakistan team just managed to play 21.4 overs in a 50-over match and whole team all-out after scoring 105 runs which is their shortest innings in world cup history.

Right from the start of the day, things went in West Indies favor as skipper Jason Holder won toss and chose to field first. This decision was backed by Caribbean bowlers brilliantly as they dismissed both Pak openers in just 6 overs. After that no batsmen could stand against quality bowling from Windies.

Only four Pakistani batsmen reached to double figure as Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam made 22-22 each meanwhile Mohammad Hafeez contributed just 16 at the lower middle order. Ten number batsman Wahab Riaz scored quick 18 in just 11 balls to guide team past 100 score.

West Indies’s world cup debuting fast bowler Oshane Thomas took 4 wickets in the match while captain Jason Holder dismissed three Pakistani batsmen. For this match winning bowling performance, Thomas was awarded “Player of the match”.

It was an easy target for fire powering West Indies batting lineup and team achieved the target in just 13.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Chris Gayle smashed fifty in 34 balls before leaving the field. Nicolas Pooran finished the match by hitting six.

The only thing Pakistan can take away from this defeat is Mohammad Amir’s bowling performance as he took three wickets in low scoring game. This Pakistan’s successive 11th defeat in ODI cricket.
