Ireland stuns West Indies to win world cup match by 4 wickets

Ireland cricket fans are now delighted as their team has given them big occasion to cheer. Irish team has defeated West Indies in the pool B match of 2015 cricket world cup today played at Saxton Oval in Nelson. Three Ireland batsmen Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce and Niall O’Brien scored half-centuries to register 4 wickets victory over Caribbean team.

This was not the first occasion when Ireland beat a big side in such kind of big event. Ireland defeated Pakistan and England in previous world cups. In 2007 ICC world cup Irish team beat Pakistan by 3 wickets whereas in 2011 world cup Ireland registered win against England. They beat English side by 3 wickets while chasing 327 score.

So this is their second successful chase of 300 plus score in world cup. This is the seventh occasion when three hundred plus runs score has been chased in cricket world cup history. Niall O’Brien made unbeaten 79 runs to confirm Ireland historic win over West Indies.

Stirling and Joyce also played valuable innings for Ireland.

Paul Stirling was named man of the match for his brilliant 92 runs in 84 balls. He hit 3 big sixes and 9 fours. Ed Joyce also scored 84 runs in 67 balls. After losing toss West Indies put up a score of 304 in 50 overs. Lendl Simmons scored brilliant century but Caribbean bowlers didn’t bowl well and his valuable inning went for waste.
