New Zealand appoints Danny Hay head coach for 2022 World Cup

Former All Whites defender Danny Hay has been confirmed as the head coach of New Zealand’s national football coach for FIFA world cup 2022 campaign. Danny Hay to take over the role from Fritz Schmid who resigned from senior team coach position in June.

Danny Hay to become second All-Whites player after Ricki Herbert to captain and coach national football team for New Zealand. Hay coached New Zealand’s under-17 team team previously and team reached to the Round of 16 in FIFA U-17 World Cup 2015 in Chile.

“It’s an exciting time for the game as I firmly believe we have a balance of experience, youthful vitality and real quality. The next few years is about bringing these players together on a regular basis so that we have a genuine chance of qualifying for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar,” Hay said as quoted by Stuff.co.nz.

Recently, Danny coached Eastern Suburbs team that won national league title. Hence it would be an exciting and challenging task for him to prepare a good side for the Qatar 2022 qualifiers and guide team to book spot for main event.

Hay to start his stint with Kiwi senior team from November when All Whites to take on Ireland and Lithuania in the friendly matches.
