New Zealand won by 193 runs in Wellington Test against SL

New Zealand cricket team has beaten Sri Lanka in the second and final test match of 2014-15 Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand series. Kiwi team won the Wellington test by 193 runs on the day-5 at Basin Reserve. Kane Williamson was declared man of the match for his brilliant doubly century on day-4 of the test match.

On the last of match, Sri Lanka were required 345 runs to win the match with 9 wickets remaining. Night watchman Dhammika Prasad was the first dismissal of day. SL lost 2nd wicket on 51 score. Now its turn for first inning hero Kumar Sangakkara to join Kaushal Silva and built partnership to take Sri Lankan team at safe position. But Sangakkara couldn’t go long and he just made 5 runs before getting dismissed by Boult.

New batsman to the crease Thirimanne started to build partnership with Silva but failed to do it as Silva got out just after completing his fifty. There were big hopes from captain Angelo Mathews on the crease but he also failed and contributed just 8 runs. Half Sri Lanka team was in pavilion on 110. Prasanna Jayawardene and Chandimal tried to re-build the Sri Lankan innings but couldn’t do against Kiwi fast bowling.

Tale couldn’t spend more time on the crease and whole Sri lanka team dismissed at 196 runs. Lahiru Thirimanne returned not out on 62.

Mark Craig took 4 wickets for New Zealand the second innings whereas Boult and Bracewell shared 2-2 wickets each. Tim Southee also took one wicket.

New Zealand won first test match by 8 wickets in Christchurch and here they won by 193 runs in Wellington. So Kiwi team clinched the two test match series by 2-0. Now NZ and SL will play seven One Day International series and its first ODI will be played on 11 January at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
