Rugby World Cup 2019: Top 5 Contenders

The ninth edition of the Rugby World Cup will be taking place between September and November this year. It is being held in Japan, which will be the first time the tournament has taken place in Asia. This will cap off a memorable year for sport with the Athletic World Championships and Cricket World Cup also taking place.

Top 5 contenders of RWC 2019

1. New Zealand

The favourites heading into the competition as expected are the All Blacks and they can be supported at a best priced 6/5. 3. Ireland

Next in the betting at 5/1 are Ireland, who are also the current third ranked side in the world. They have long been a dominant side in the sport, so will also be expected to challenge to the latter stages of the competition. Ireland will be hopeful of surpassing their best finish in the competition this year, as they have never progressed past the quarter final stages. Ireland have been drawn in Pool A and will face off against Scotland, Japan, Russia and Samoa.

4. Wales

Wales enter the competition full of confidence following their recent Six Nations victory. They currently sit second in the world rankings and can be supported at 6/1 for victory in Japan. Wales reached the quarter-final stages back in 2015, so will be hopeful of progressing further this time around. Wales have been drawn in Pool D against Australia, Georgia, Fiji and Uruguay.

5. South Africa

The final side worth a mention are South Africa, who can be supported at 8/1 for the title. They are the current fifth ranked side in the world and have won the competition on two occasions, so will again be hopeful of success in Japan later this year. They have been drawn in Pool B and will face off against New Zealand, Italy, Namibia and Canada.
