England rugby team beat two-time rwc champion Australia in the first quarterfinal by 40-16 meanwhile three-time winner and current world champions New Zealand thrashed Ireland by 46-14 to claim semi-final spot.

England beat Australia in 1st quarterfinal

Two arch rivals Australia and England were scheduled to face off each other in the first quarterfinal game and since both teams are champions of the tournament, it was confirmed that one of them would go to home and this time it’s Wallabies who suffered defeat.

“We emptied everything into this but we didn’t get it which is pretty gutting,” Wallabies captain Michael Hooper said after the defeat.

New Zealand thumped Ireland in 2nd quarterfinal

“Our bench came on and made an impact. Rory Best, you’ve been a legend of the game so thanks for what you’ve given to the game,” All Black captain Kieran Read said after the victory.

“We’ve been a little bit flat all season which is disappointing. Thank you to my players and these supporters. It has been a privilege for me,” Irish coach Joe Schmidt said after the defeat.

Beauden Barrett was awarded player of the match award for his 1 try, 1 try assist and 21 carries in the crucial quarterfinal match. New Zealand beat Ireland by 46-14 score.

England and New Zealand will take on each other in the first semi-final of rugby wc on 26 October 2019 in Yokohama.
