Sir Vivian Richards: Only player to play both cricket World Cup and FIFA World Cup

Cricket’s all time legendary player Sir Vivian Richards is the only cricketer to appear in a cricket world cup and a football world cup. He is the only athlete to play two world cups for two different sports. West Indies’ legend played two ICC World Cups in 1975 and 1979, and also appeared in 1974 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches for Antigua.

It’s an interesting cricketing fact that the cricketer who scored more than 15 thousand runs in the game, actually played international soccer for Antigua and Barbuda before representing West Indies in cricket.

His decision to choose cricket over football, proven to be beneficial for the Caribbean region as Viv Richard guided West Indies to win two cricket world cups in 1975 and 1979. He scored 8,540 runs in played 121 tests at an average of 50.23.

Sir Viv Richards made debut for Windies cricket in November 1974 when he played first test against India. He also played 187 One-Day Internationals in which he smashed 6,721 runs at an average of 47.00. Richards appeared in his last test match against England in 1991.

He also took twp 5-wicket hauls in ODI career against New Zealand (1987) and India (1989).

He still loves football and support English football club Liverpool F.C. in Premier League. Sir Richards bagged 31 Man Of The Match awards as well in ODI career.
