India’s World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir retires

India’s legendary opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has announced retirement from all forms of cricket. He’ll not be seen playing in Indian Premier League as well. Gautam Gambhir is a world cup hero for national team as he played crucial roles in t20 world cup 2007 final and 2011 ICC world cup final to guide India winning the cup.

Gautam declared his retirement on social media and said that he’d appear for the final time during Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. He also mentioned that the last IPL season in 2018 where he failed to score runs and left captaincy before six games, was his last edition of cash-rich twenty20 league.

“After more than 15 years of cricket for my country I want to retire from playing this beautiful game. I think someone up there was writing my script but looks like now he has run out of his ink! But along the way he wrote some fascinating chapters,” said Gambhir.

Left-handed opening batsman made crucial 75 runs in the final of 2007 t20 world cup against Pakistan while he scored 97 runs in 2011 world cup final against Sri Lanka to guide Men In Blue winning world cup after 28 years.

“After a decent 2017 domestic season, I entered this year’s IPL with confidence as my best buddy. I thought all those negative noises were dead. But I was wrong. Six games of IPL for Delhi Daredevils it was back. And this time it was louder than before.

Perhaps, my time was up. Yes, my time was up.”

Gambhir believes winning series in New Zealand and Australia were also the highlight moments in his cricketing career.

“The historic series wins in New Zealand and in CB series in Australia will be reflected upon fondly. But I do hope the current Indian team Down Under can overshadow our feats. I won’t say the list is satisfactory as I feel I was good enough for a lot more.

Gambhir represented India in 58 tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is. In those international appearances, he made 4154 test runs, 5238 One-Day international runs and 932 T20I runs.
