Angelique Kerber beat Serena Williams by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4 to create history. With this win Germany star has reached to the second spot in the WTA rankings. USA star was defending champion in the tournament and was favorite to win 2016 title too but courage and hard work of Kerber stunned Serena.

After the match presentation party, Williams congratulated Angelique and wished her best of luck for upcoming events. Also she praised her that she was best in the event.

Kerber said, “My dream has come true tonight. I had goosebumps. My whole life I’ve worked hard. To say ‘I am a Grand Slam champion’ is crazy.”

“Serena, you are an inspiration for so many people. An unbelievably great person. Congrats for everything you have done already.”

This is consecutive second Grand Slam final lost for world no.1 Serena Williams as she lost 2015 US Open final also.
