France player Garcia will be facing Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky in the final match. Timea defeated in the semifinal match by 6-2, 6-4 to seal her berth in the Mexican Open final.

This was Maria Sharapova’s first appearance in Abierto Mexicano competition. She beat Magdalena Rybarikova by 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinal to enter in the semi-final. But unfortunately she had to withdraw from the tournament. Sharapova didn’t come to press conference after winning quarterfinal due to her illness.

After withdrawing from Mexican Open, Maria said in a statement, “I’m really sorry to have to withdraw from the tournament. I had a great start to the event and was hoping I could recover in time for tonight’s match but unfortunately it was not enough time. I want to thank the tournament for organizing such a great event and most importantly the fans who were so passionate during all my matches.”

Maria Sharapova will now participate in BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells starting from 11 March.
