Maria Sharapova haven’t won single match against Serena since 2004. In last 10-11 years whenever Maria and Serena faced each other, always Sharapova got defeated. In the recent concluded Australian Open 2015 final, Serena beat Sharapova comfortably to win her 19th Grand slam title.

Sharapova told Reuters, “I wouldn’t say it’s as much of a priority as when I was younger.

She is definitely an opponent that I have had a lot of trouble playing against in the last 10 years and someone that I would love to beat. I love facing her and I love that challenge. I’m definitely not shy of competing against her.”

Serena and Sharapova met 19 times and Williams is dominating with 17-2 score. Hence Maris is very eager to win against USA star. Currently Maria is in Acapulco to participate in Mexico Open for the first time in tournament’s history.

“It’s quite a tough deal. There are a lot of girls that have had big wins, even some that are not seeded, so I look forward to tough competition and of course being the number one seed,” she added.
