England beat New Zealand to claim maiden ICC World Cup title

World Cricket has got new champion as England have defeated New Zealand in the final of 2019 ICC world cup to clinch their first ever world cup trophy at the Lord’s. This was the biggest and best ever final of cricket world cup as it into the super over and even than winner was decided by counting the number of boundaries scored by teams.

Winning the toss, New Zealand set a target of 242 runs for hosts but England couldn’t make those runs. 15 runs were required in the final over and England’s Ben Stokes smacked two sixes in the final over but couldn’t finish off the game. Match went into the super over as England all out on 241 in 50 overs.

In the super over, England got first chance to bat and they sent Buttler and Stokes to start proceedings against Boult. Both batsmen scored one-one fours that helped England to post 15 runs on the board. Blackcaps required 16 to win the competition and eventually they ended-up scoring 15. It’s tie and according to ICC rules, the team which scores most number of boundaries at the tie situation after super-over, declares the winners.

Ben Stokes was named man of the match for his brilliant 84 runs unbeaten innings that helped England to tied up the match. Kane Williamson was awarded Player of the Tournament.

“Unbelievable. I thought we’d seen everything in cricket, but that game was unbelievable. Hard to put it into words at the minute,” Buttler said after the victory.
