Champions Trophy 2017: ECB Propose The Oval, Cardiff and Edgbaston as Venues

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have proposed three venues The Oval, Edgbaston and Cardiff to host ICC Champions Trophy 2017. In 2013 Champions trophy tournament these three venues hosted the competition successfully hence ECB has decided to use these venues again to host 2017 champions trophy.

ECB’s head of Global Events Steve Elworthy said, “The format and the venues in 2013 proved extremely popular and the fans turned out in record numbers for the event. All three venues will be keen to repeat their success from the last tournament and I am sure they will have learnt from the experience which will lead to the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 being even more memorable.”

Edgbaston, Cardiff and The Oval attracted more people towards game in 2013 Champions Trophy. India won that tournament by defeating England in the final at Edgbaston. It is expected that The Oval will host 2017 Champions Trophy final if the ICC approves the proposal.

The ECB Chairman Giles Clarke said, “There has never been such a concerted period of high class international cricket in England and Wales. ECB will host three global events with the Champions Trophy 2017, the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 within two years.
