Bangladesh lost against NZ; confirm their quarterfinal vs India

New Zealand has defeated Bangladesh in match-37 of cricket world cup 2015 by 3 wickets. Martin Guptil was declared player of the Match for his brilliant century. Losing this game Bangladesh has now confirmed their first ICC world cup quarter-final match against defending champions India on 19 March.

After losing toss Bangladesh was asked to bat and put runs on the board. They got bad start as lost two quick wickets in first 10 overs after putting just 27 runs on the scorecard. After this Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah built 90 runs partnership for third wicket. Sarkar made 51 before getting dismissed by Daniel Vettori. Last match hero Mahmudullah scored his consecutive world cup ton against Blackcaps in this match.

Mahmudullah made 128 runs in 123 balls with 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. He returned pavilion unbeaten when Bangladesh innings completed. At the end of innings Sabbir Rahman and lower order batsmen played good shoots along with Mahmudullah to take team’s total 288 in 50 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Anderson, Elliott and Boult took 2-2 wickets each.

In the chase of 2898 target, Kiwi team lost Captain McCullum and Kane Williamson the starting phase of inning when team’s total was 33 in 5 overs. Ross Taylor and Guptil added 131 runs for third wicket partnership. Martin Guptil scored his first hundred in world cups and against Bangladesh in ODIs. He made 105 runs in 100 balls before returning to pavilion.

Nasir Hossain got Taylor LBW 42nd over when team’s total was 219. He made 56 in 97 balls. Elliott and Anderson contributed 39-39 runs each in the run chase and some powerful hitting at the end of innings, helped New Zealand to registered their sixth victory of 2015 world cup. Captain Shakib Al Hasan took 4 wickets for Bangladesh.
