St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Squad, Team Preview 2015 CPL

With 6 teams set to battle it out for the big prize, we try to get close to another team to be a part of this exciting event. The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots team is the home team of he St Kitts and Nevis islands in the West Indies.

This team is the first expansion team as this is the first season that they will be a part of. Eric Simmons will be the head coach of the team. He will be assisted by Andre Coley, an ex West Indian player. They play their home games in the Warner Park in Basseterre. It has a top of capacity up to 8000 people. They start their tournament against the St Lucia Zouks at the Sros Islet in St Lucia.

Players like Afridi and Guptill provide all the fire power the team needs. The team will be a surprise to most teams in the league as it is about to make its debut. A good start to the league will go a long way in promoting cricket in the island.

Squad

Retained players

Carlos Brathwaite, Devon Thomas, Orlando Peters and Justin Athanaze.

Picked up in the draft

Shahid Afridi, Marlon Samuels, Sohail Tanvir, Sheldon Cottrell, Martin Guptill, Ewin Lewis, Raymond Reifer, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tonito Willett, Nicolas Pooran and Jacques Taylor.

Strengths

The Patriots have a very good batting line up. The likes of Guptill, Samuels and Afridi to finish off will be very effective in the T20 format. If they do not take long to settle in with each other, the other teams in the league may well be embarrassed by the new comers.

The local contingent in the squad also has a very assuring look to it. There are lots of all rounder in the team who can use the long handle if necessary and this will make the team a very strong outfit.

Weaknesses

The bowling line up looks a bit out of spark with only Tanvir and Afridi lending all the glamour to the lineup. With not too many bowlers who the captain can rely on, low scoring matches might be something that can be the undoing of the team in their debut season.

The bowlers from the local contingent are not really experienced at the biggest stage. Though this might drive them harder to give their best, it can often all go bad within a short time if they are not able to step up to the occasion. This may be the one thing that the owners would want to strengthen as the history of the club progresses.

Afridi and Guptill are surely the players to watch out for from this franchise. They can take away the game in a short time and will want to give their best for their franchise. The fact that they are new, and the retention of players have not allowed them to pick the best of squad, at least among the local talent.
