Chile were the home favourites for this clash although they never reached the final four of Copa America before and Uruguay had been the 2011 champions. Uruguay looked weak as they were missing their star striker Louis Suarez and played a draw against Paraguay in the last group match. Chile, on the other hand, riding a 5-0 win against Bolivia in the last match.

The opening half saw some brutal challenges and very few chances regarding goal. Uruguay looked happy to sit back and play defensive in the Chilean capital.

The first 45 minutes remained goalless but Chile was looking effective with few chances that were not well created. Charles Aranguiz came close to break the deadlock in 26^th minute after hitting straight to the throat of Muslera, later in the dying minutes of first half he also saved a long range shot from Arturo Vidal.

Nine minutes left and down by a goal and a player, Uruguay had a mountain to climb. The woes added for Oscar Tabarez’s men when Jorge Fucile saw a second yellow and Uruguay ended their Copa America campaign with 9 men on the field.

Chile will now face Peru in the semi-final of 2015 Copa America.
