Argentina reached the Copa America finals after beating Paraguay 6-1 at Municipal Stadium, Concepcion. They went an inch closer to the trophy to finish their 22 year drought of Copa America title. They last won the cup in 1993 and are the favourites to win the title with Messi this time. Paraguay were hopeful to play a similar game what they did in the group stages with Argentina playing a 2-2 draw. Argentina were well confident this time to go their 27th Copa America final.
Argentina called back Demichelis for the match in place of Garay at the centre-back. They went with 4-4-2 formation with Pastore, Messi, Aguero and di Maria at the front. The match had some players with one yellow cards including Messi so it was expected we aren’t going to see a rough match this time as they do not want to miss out the final.
Argentina had won 18 out of 23 meetings with Paraguay in the Copa America previously. The match began and Paraguay attacked in the first few minutes of the game and dominated and that was the last time they were good until Marcos Rojo opened the score for Argentina for the night in the 15th minute.
It was all Argentina after that. Messi got two free kicks in his area but couldn’t aim at the goal both the times. Paraguay had a penalty call almost at the 25th minute but the referee denied a dive by Valdez and Pastore found the top corner the very next minute from a cross off Leo Messi.
Argentina dominating the first half quite well with a few chances until Lucas Barrios scored from nowhere once again in the 43rd minute to pull one goal back for the Paraguayans. He did the same thing in the group stage against the Argentines. The first half ended at 2-1 and the second half expected to be close.
Argentina found the net immediately in the second half when di Maria made no mistake to score in the 47th minute. The match was almost end by now di Maria ensured this thing 6 minutes later when he scored the second of the day. It was Messi who created this goal by dribbling past the Paraguayans defender and then shrugged with Aguilar to assist di Maria. Argentina are almost to the finals.
It was all Messi show at the field who haven’t scored any goals but has conducted his players well and did the job as playmaker. Sergio Aguero got a chance to score in the 80th to give Argentina their 5th goal of the day. He was then called off in a tactical substitution and Higuaín replaced him.
Messi then got the ball two minutes later who played a one two one with Banega but couldn’t finish it off. The ball went to Higuaín and he scored immediately after being two minutes in the field. Argentina are now with half a dozen on the board. Argentina have served up master class and reached the finals where they meet hosts Chile in Santiago.
