CONMEBOL teams to kick off 2022 world cup qualifying games in September

South American football governing council CONMEBOL have announced that qualifying matches for FIFA World cup 2022 will start in September 2020. This decision is taken after coronavirus crisis in the world and major sporting events have been postponed in meantime.

CONMEBOL also stated that Copa America will be played next year in 2021 during June and July time period.

“As for the FIFA Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, it is a FIFA competition and therefore it is up to the highest body in world football to establish the date of celebration of this qualifying competition. So far, the start date set by this body for its celebration is from September 4 to 8, 2020 in the previously established format,” CONMEBOL said in a release.

Qatar to host 2022 world cup main event from 21 November to 18 December.
