Manuel Neuer to retire from international football after Euro 2020

Germany goal-keeper and skipper Manuel Neuer is considering to retire from international sport after concluding the UEFA European championship 2020. According to German magazine Sportsblid, Neuer could hand over Marc Andre ter Stegen his position in the national side.

“The most important thing is always the success and well-being of the team. I know this from the handball, how to support each other there. It is not the first time that one expresses oneself in the direction. I think I just show very good performances,” Neuer quoted as saying by the report.

Manuel Neuer was the crucial part of Germany side that lifted 2014 FIFA world cup and eventually he was awarded best goalkeeper of the tournament. The last world cup in Russia was disappointing for him and 34-year old last year said that it would be not be easy for him to maintain for 2022 Qatar. There are lots factors to be considered for that.

One more reason that is rising is the rift between Neuer and Marc Andre ter Stegen who were spotted in a verbal clash recently. So four-time world cup appearing GK is thinking to make a way for youngster.
