Peru thrashed title defenders Chile to enter Copa America 2019 final

Peru has stunned Copa America title defending champions Chile in the second semi-final to qualify for finals. It is the first occasion since 1975 when Peru national football team has succeeded to reach Copa America final. That year, they defeated Colombia in the final playoff to become champions.

Chile won previous two editions of Copa America and were favorites in the 2nd semifinal against Peru. But 1975 South American football champions played some brilliant soccer on the field to out class Chilean side and registered 3-0 victory.

Edison Flores scored the first goal of last semifinal in the 21st minute. He was fantastic and provided early lead to Peru. After that, Peru maintained their striking form and second goal was scored by Yoshimar Yotun that helped Peru to take 2-0 lead and it remains till the end of half time.

Title defenders were trying hard and pushing well but failing to send the ball into the nets. Due to high press from Chile side, Paolo Guerrero got opportunity in the final minutes of the game and he scored third goal of the match to confirm Peru’s 3-0 victory over Chile.

Peru will now play Brazil in the final of 2019 Copa America on July 7 at Maracana. Remember, Selecao defeated Peru in the group match earlier stage of the championship by 5-0. Hence it will be uphill task for Peru to overcome 2007 Copa America winners Brazil. The Brazilian team defeated Argentina in the first semi-final by 2-0.
