Just ahead of the beginning of 2015 cricket world cup, Australia has got one more ICC event to host in future as today International Cricket Council’s chief executive David Richardson has confirmed that Australia will host seventh edition of ICC World Twenty20 in 2020.
David Richardson said, “We’d like to come back to Australia and New Zealand more often. The fact is the timezone for this part of the world, relative to the rest of the cricket playing world, is not ideal. But what makes it special is the tournaments have come few and far between, which adds to the excitement and the level of anticipation for this event.”
Though Mr. Richardson mentioned that ICC is happy to host tournaments in Australia and New Zealand but he didn’t confirm that New Zealand will be co-host for T20 world cup 2020. In the press conference Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland was also with Richardson and he was pleased to get the hosting confirmation for twenty20 world cup.
He said, “It’s an honour to be hosting a global event on behalf of the ICC. We haven’t cast our minds that far ahead yet, 2020 seems like a long way away. We’ll focus our attention on that after this tournament.”
The next ICC world twenty20 is scheduled to take place in India in 2016.
