South Africa named Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017

Cricket South Africa have declared the 15-member roster of national team to participate in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England. AB De Villiers will be leading Proteas in the 8 teams tournament that will run from 1st of June. Dale Steyn didn’t get spot in the side due to injury concerns meanwhile pace bowling all-rounder Morne Morkel is recalled in the roster.

South Africa are yet to win a ICC Champions Trophy and team will look to play well in this year’s competition to win first major International Cricket Council event. Proteas are placed in the Group B of Champions Trophy along with heavy Asian weights India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. SA will start CT17 campaign against Sri Lanka on 3rd June from The Oval.

CSA national team selectors have included uncapped spinner Keshav Maharaj in the squad. Chirstopher Morris, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius are the key all-rounders in African team.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) convener of selectors, Linda Zondi said, “We have been working with this group of players for the last two seasons where our key emphasis has been consitency in selection. That has shown in how this group has performed over the last while, which has resulted in winning three consecutive ODI series.”
