England didn’t have luck with the start of knockout game as Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat. Unfortunately title defenders didn’t get benefited from this and they lost 3 wickets on just 14 runs score. They’re in big trouble and Steve Smith was on the crease. Smith and Alex Carey built hundred runs partnership that made Aussies believe that they could score competitive total.

But England had different plans and their bowlers executed them pretty well.

Adil Rashid was star for English team when they were searching someone to break the partnership and he took Carey’s wicket to break the rhythm. In the same over, he dismissed Marcus Stoinis as well that caused Australia in deep trouble. However Steve Smith stood tall and score brilliant half century. He made 85 before returning to pavilion.

Australia couldn’t play full overs and team all out in 49 runs after putting 223 runs on the board. These runs were not enough on this pitch and England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow broke the backbone of Australian bowling lineup. Both players played attacking cricket and provided 124 runs stand for the first wicket.
