Indian captain MS Dhoni won important toss and chose to bat. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave 34 runs start in 7 overs. Sohail Khan dismissed first wicket and Rohit gone after making 15. Then Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan started to play strokes sensibly and building innings. Both batsmen added 129 runs for second wicket partnership. Shikhar Dhawan hit fifty and made 73 runs in 76 balls before getting run out.

Suresh Raina came to bat at no. 4 and started to play strokes all over the park. India reached to 150 runs in 29th over. Virat Kohli scored 22nd hundred in his ODI career and this was first century for India against Pakistan in a cricket world cup match. Kohli made 107 runs in 126 balls. Raina also hit fifty and he scored valuable 74 in 56 balls. After completion of 50 overs India made 300/7. Pakistan bowled well in last 5 overs and conceded only 27 runs and took 5 wickets.
