The craze of T20 cricket that the IPL has created in the nation has now been taken to the next level. Shah Rukh Khan, the co owner of the Kolkata franchise in the IPL has now taken over the Trinidad and Tobago franchise in the Caribbean Premier League.
The CPL will kick off on the 20th of June and will run till the 26th of next month. The T&T team is lead by the maverick all rounder Kieron Pollard. The franchise will be co-owned by actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta. They also are the co owners of the KKR franchise along with Shah Rukh Khan.
SRK, a superstar in India will join a host of famous people to own a franchise at the CPL. Gerard Butler and Mark Wahlberg are amongst other who own a team in the Caribbean Premier League.
SRK owned KKR, are two time champions of the cash rich IPL but were not able to pass through the group stage in the 2015 season. ShahRukh, speaking to the India Times said that his decision to purchase a team in the CPL was in line with a vision to expand globally.
Shahrukh also added that he was thrilled to be a part of the ongoing venture and that he is happy to be a part of a pretty well knit T&T team. He said that the CPL has been very successful in the Caribbean because of the passion for cricket and for the franchise by the local fans.
SRK said that he adores the T&T franchise and said that after the success of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL that he will try to bring all the positives and practices that gave them success in India to the CPL. He also added that they might learn a few things form the CPL that might in turn help the KKR franchise.
Caribbean Premier League is a colorful carnival for the people in West Indies. It has six teams playing for the trophy. The six teams are, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, St Lucia Zouks, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.
