Indian women’s have beaten Poland hockey team in the FIH world hockey round-2 final match to qualify for the third round scheduled for June. India won the final by 3-1 score against Polish women to lift the trophy. Vandana Katariya, Rani and Ritu Rani scored goals for Indian team in this victory.
Oriana Walasek hit the only goal of match for Poland in 17th minute of match via penalty corner. Hockey India High Performance Director Roelant Oltmans was happy after winning the competition and he praised players for their excellent performances.
He said, “First quarter we played astounding. The way Rani scored her goal was brilliant and not everyday someone scores a goal like that. We had pressure on us in the third quarter but we came back strong. The team has a very good understanding on the field and they did a great job today.”
India didn’t lose single match throughout the competition and scored 39 goals in played six matches. Indian women conceded only one goal in women’s world hockey league second round. Hence Mr. Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad Secretary General Hockey India was pleased with the performance and he announced 1 lakh rupees prize award for each member of the squad and 50,000 Rs. for support staff.
Mr. Ahmad said, “The team played wonderfully and I am immensely happy and proud at the same time. We are announcing the prize money to encourage the young talents so that they keep up their momentum and continue performing likewise in times to come. I take this opportunity to congratulate each one involved in this win and wish the team all the best for the future.”
