Indian Super League 2015 Auction – As It Happened

The player auction for the 2nd season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at Mumbai saw celebrity owners coming out to the auction tables to fight for the desired players. Ranbir Kapoor,  John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan. The auctioneer Charlie Ross oversaw the proceedings of the auction where 10 Indian players were sold for a total of Rs. 7.33 crore. The players were divided equally in Pool A and Pool B.

The first player to go under the hammer was Jackichand Singh who had a base price of Rs.20 lakhs and was snapped up by Pune City FC for Rs. 45 lakhs, he was handed over his jersey by Hrithik Roshan. Next was Thoi Singh with a base price of Rs. 39 lakhs and Chennayin FC outbid others with a bid of Rs. 86 lakhs as they needed a midfielder to get their squad in order. Delhi dynamos who yesterday announced the signing of Roberto Carlos as their player-manager made their first signing in the form of Anas Etathodika who  was bought for Rs 41 lakhs.

The 1 crore mark was breached when Pune City FC made their second signing of the day in the form of Eugeneson Lyngdoh and had him sign for Rs, 1.05 crore. The last man from Pool A to go under the hammer was Indian captain Sunil Chhetri and Mumbai City FC had him for Rs 1.20 crore after having to fend off interest from Delhi Dynamos. Mumbai franchise owner Ranbir Kapoor handed him his shirt and was happy to have the star in his team at a price which he believed was a bargain. “Who wouldn’t be excited to partner Nicolas Anelka?’’, Chetri said in interaction with the media during the break.

After restart, defending champions Atletico De Kolkata made their first signing in the form of Arata Izumi who was sold at Rs. 68 lakhs. Next up in line was Robin Singh who was snapped up by his home town franchise Delhi Dynamos at Rs. 51 lakhs and the left footer could turn out to be a steal as he’s the best player after Chetri in India. Chennaiyin FC were looking for a goalkeeper and they acquired the services of Karanjit Singh and got him at his base price of Rs. 60 lakhs.

The auction room was abuzz when full back Rino Anto’s name came up and was sold to last year Atletico at five times more than his base price. Young sensation Seityasen Singh was last player in Pool B and Northeast United FC signed the Manipur player for Rs 56 lakks to finish the auction proceedings. Kerala and Goa were the teams who didn’t spend money at the auction and decided to wait for the player draft to bring in more players.
