Can Australia Defend Their T20 World Cup Title In 2022?

Matthew Wade, the Australian wicketkeeper, said that might announce his retirement from international cricket after the T20 World Cup 2022. He is very positive about the conditions of the Australian team and plans to defend the trophy in his last and next year’s World Cup tournament. He is very positive about winning the title in his home ground. Wade played really well in this year’s tournament. He made 41 runs to win over Pakistan in the second semi-final match, which recently took place in UAE. Australia also got the T20 trophy by winning the final match against New Zealand. They have less than one year to prepare for the next T20 World Cup which will start in October 2022. Wade said that he wishes that his team would win the T20 world cup next year too, and then he can retire in peace. He added that he will not be playing international cricket beyond that point, and hence 2022 T20 world cup is his primary goal now. Wade also revealed that he played in the finals of the T20 world cup 2021 with a grade 2 sprain, which he got during a training session before the real tournament began.

In the meantime, the venues are getting confirmed as the world now looks to Australia to defend their title in the home ground. The tournament will begin on October 16 and end on November 13. The matches will take place across seven cities of the country and the semi-finals will be hosted at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval ground. While 12 teams have already confirmed their places in the World Cup, the final four spots will be confirmed through several qualifying tournaments during the June and July months of 2022.

ICC head of events Chris Tetley said that the board is excited to see which teams join the confirmed list and play with the top 12s. He also added that the board is delighted to announce the venues of the matches at the moment. The board has now set its focus on effectively planning the event in collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee so that this international event can take place smoothly, without any hassles. With the matches being played on the home ground, and the consistently good performance of almost all the players in the Australian men’s cricket team, there is a high chance that they will win the T20 World Cup 2022.
