Dominic Thiem wins maiden US Open title in stunning comeback to final

In one of the greatest comebacks of US Open final, Dominic Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev to win his first major grand slam title. Losing first two sets, Dominic made shocking comeback and won the 2020 US Open beating German’s Zverev 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) in the final played at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

It was such a fantastic end to US Open 2020 championship and a new champion tournament has witnesses in men’s singles event for six years. Both Dominic and Alexander deserved to win the tournament but alas we could have only one champion and that is 27-year Austrian tennis professional Thiem.

Dominic Thiem accepted after the match that both of the finalists deserved to be winners of the trophy but it can’t be happened.

“I wish we could have two winners today. I think we both deserved it,” Thiem said after clinching the title.

Alexander Zverev was fantastic with his skills at the initial stage of the final as he won two sets comprehensively by 6-2, 6-4 but then Dominic charged up a bit and started playing some healthy hands.

“From that moment when I broke him back, the belief got stronger and stronger. But the thing is that the belief in myself is not enough because Sascha, I’m sure he believed himself as well, 100 percent,” he added.

In the fifth set, both players served for the match point at different stages as Zverev was serving at 5-3 meanwhile Thiem served at 6-5. But the final went into the breaker and Theim won it by 8-6 margin.
